Subcontractor Insurance Requirements

Working as a subcontractor means meeting the GC's insurance requirements before you can start. Here's what you need and how to get it.

Standard Sub Requirements

Most GCs require subcontractors to carry at minimum: general liability insurance ($1M/$2M limits), workers' compensation (if you have employees), and commercial auto (if you use vehicles on the job).

They'll also typically require you to name them as an additional insured on your GL policy, which we can set up quickly.

Additional Insured Status

When a GC asks to be named as an additional insured, they want to be covered under your policy for claims arising from your work. This is standard practice and we can add it to your COI at no extra cost in most cases.

Make sure to get the GC's full legal name and address when requesting this.

Getting Set Up Fast
